First Things First: My Privacy Policy in Layman’s Terms

Hi, I’m Erin. My e-mail address is theberrypatch at proton.me. This is my education blog. This site is a personal blog run by only me. I use WordPress to publish this blog. I don’t collect much data about my visitors.

E-Mail Sign-Ups

If you subscribe to my posts through my e-mail sign-up, I will receive an e-mail about it from WordPress, and that e-mail will include your address. I delete these from my e-mail account (with Proton, which is all about privacy) after I get them–that’s within a day or two, however often I check my e-mail. I do, of course, still have access to your e-mail address via WordPress, and of course if you use your first and last name as your e-mail address, that gives me more information, but regardless, I promise I won’t doxx you. I’m just glad you’re here. My site is run through WordPress, and e-mail sign-ups are collected and stored there and used to e-mail you my posts. I do back up the list of subscribers when I back up my web site just in case something happens to my blog, whether it’s attacked because I am against banning books and teaching real history or whether the blog goes dark because of an error on my part or on the some other issue of another party such as WordPress. The back-up of my blog data is stored on my “work” computer. It is the computer that travels with me, but it never leaves my RV except to go in my house. My RV travels throughout the United States. If I ever to go overseas (or to Alaska), I will update this notice.

Comments

If you leave a comment, you may be asked for your name and e-mail address. I never share this information with anyone. It is stored on the site and presumably available in the back-ups on my computer. See the paragraph above. I encourage you not to use your full name or to have your full name in your e-mail address, and I especially discourage such practices if you leave public comments on blogs, including my own.

My Privacy Philosophy

As an aside, I believe that privacy is a basic human right, and I will always recommend using an alias to sign up to any blog’s newsletter. (I use SimpleLogin, and sometimes you just have to turn those subscriptions off through your alias because the site does not remove your information as promptly as requested.) If you unsubscribe from my posts and are still getting messages, please contact me, and I’ll work to resolve the situation. If you change your e-mail address and want it changed here, I can fix that for you. Just contact me. I tried to get Carter’s to change my e-mail address, and when they told me I couldn’t and would have to start an entirely new account, I opted to delete the entire account instead. As someone who subscribes to Proton, SimpleLogin, MalwareBytes, Zander, and DeleteMe, I totally understand privacy frustrations.

I don’t share (or sell) your information with others because doing so is not the right thing to do. I myself abhor entities who sell information. That includes politicians. (Kamala Harris, I’m looking at you right now. That said, we should know by now that all or nearly all politicians do this.)

I have sections of this site that are for subscribers only, but again, I’m not studying that data. I’m not even looking at what browser visitors use or where visitors are from because as a homeschooling mother who is dipping her toes back into the teaching force, I just do not have a lot of time.

WordPress does store cookies so that you can subscribe or add this blog to your reader or whatever. WordPress also tracks hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly visitors, but that visitor information is anonymous and cannot identify you.

I have no advertisers. I do not currently have any affiliate links. (I previously was an Amazon affiliate on past blogs, but I have chosen to separate from Amazon in light of events of the last year or two.) I pay for a premium WordPress account so that you don’t see ads. I have no Google Analytics account.

Do you have any questions about my privacy policy? If so, contact me. My name is Erin, and my e-mail address is theberrypatch at proton.me. You’ll have to adapt that e-mail address, but I bet you can figure out how to do it. =)

Updates

I reserve the right to change this policy at any time. I’ll actually update my policy below because I find few things more infuriating than continuously updated privacy policies with no delineation of what changes occurred when.

Keeping your private information private,

Erin

PS: Now follows the formal WordPress-suggested privacy policy just to cover all my bases.
